Responses to Catchments, Wetlands & Harbour Questions
from Local Authority Candidates – 2022

Local Authority Elections are to be held in October of this year,
with voting opening on 16 September.

It is important to Friends of Taupō Swamp & Catchment that
the representatives of these local authorities are aware of major
environmental issues facing Porirua

We are partnering with the Te Awarua-o-Porirua Harbour and Catchments Community Trust, and the Guardians of Pāuatahanui Inlet to ensure that whoever is elected to represent the people of the Porirua community will be proactive in protecting and enhancing Te Awarua-o-Porirua, its water ecosystems and its contributing catchments (including the Pāuatahanui Inlet, the Onepoto Arm, and of course the Taupō swamp, catchment & wetlands).

We have therefore sent out a questionnaire to all local body election candidates with three questions to which we would like their responses.

The questions are:

  1. What are the challenges facing the harbour and its catchments?

  2. What are your priorities for protecting and enhancing the quality of the harbour and its catchments, particularly its streams, wetlands and contributing watercourses?

  3. What will you do about these challenges and priorities if you’re elected?
